Unconstitutional: Supreme Court blocks Disney+ diversity plan to execute white employees
In a 5 - 3 decision, the Supreme Court has overturned a lower court ruling that would have allowed Disney Plus to execute white employees as part of its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion program to end racism.
Disney had said that executions were necessary to ‘cultivate a sense of belonging within the company and to empower people of color to find their authentic selves’. Disney’s Chief Officer of Diversity, Tyreese Jackson called the court ruling "a return to Jim Crow and a major setback in striving for racial equity". He/him also blamed the decision on Trump-appointed justices, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett tipping the scales. Jackson also told the Atlantis Enquirer that “These three Fascists are trampling on the constitution”. The other justices on the side of the majority opinion were Clarence Thomas and Samuel A. Alito. Judge John Roberts abstained from voting, stating that he couldn’t make up his mind whether such executions are constitutional or not.
Meanwhile, several hundred Disney employees demanded and were subsequently allowed a day of paid vacation leave to protest the decision outside the downtown Los Angeles Federal Courthouse. The 9th Circuit decision also received widespread consternation on social media. Lebron James said that he would set up 100 Disney Plus subscriptions to show his unwavering support for the company. Joy Behar Tweeted, “We are witnessing the demise of our democracy folks”. Even as far away as Berlin, Germany, from his death row prison cell, Adolph Hitler told CNN that the ruling saddened him because he had spent so much time consulting with the Disney company on how to streamline the executions.
